El otro lado del ajedrez en Gibraltar
Durante 15 años los jugadores de ajedrez han regresado al Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival, repitiendo su experiencia año tras año. Usted puede preguntarse, ¿por qué? La respuesta es simple. Gibraltar ofrece mucho más que el mejor ajedrez. Sol, un ambiente agradable, sitios turísticos increíbles para visitar, buena comida, compras y entretenimiento superior y eventos sociales especiales hacen de este festival único.
Los jugadores también son invitados a la cena de apertura organizada por el Gobierno de Gibraltar. Este año también hubo una cena especial organizada por el Gobernador de Gibraltar en su residencia en el Convento, uno de los edificios más antiguos de Gibraltar.

Este año todo el mundo fue capaz de presenciar la quinta edición de la Batalla de los Sexos que por primera vez fue visto en vivo por casi 10.000 personas en todo el mundo en nuestro sitio web.
Gibraltar fue el primer torneo de ajedrez con este evento y cada vez más a lo largo de los años nuestros competidores de ajedrez esperan unirse a la diversión. Es una competición difícil, pero tanto las mujeres como los equipos masculinos siempre se encuentran en plena forma en la noche. Este año no fue diferente. CENA DE FESTIVAL EN LA RESIDENCIA DEL GOBERNADOR, EL CONVENTO

Su Excelencia el Gobernador de Gibraltar El teniente general Edward Davis organizó una cena especial del Festival en el Convento. El campeón del mundo femenino Hou Yifan de China y el ganador del Tradewise Hikaru Nakamura del año pasado estuvieron entre los invitados, así como el ministro de Deportes y Cultura de Gibraltar Steven Linares, el organizador del torneo Brian Callaghan, el director del torneo Stuart Conquest y el presidente de la Federación Inglesa de Ajedrez Dominic Lawson.
Batalla de los sexos
La Batalla de los Sexos se celebró el pasado sábado por la noche en el Hotel Caleta. Fue una competencia dura y divertida al mismo tiempo.

Gibraltar’s Equality Minister revisits chess
Gibraltar’s Equality and Social Services Minister Samantha Sacramento revisited the Caleta Hotel today to see what moves were being played in the seventh round of the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival. This was her second visit having hosted the official Government Opening Dinner last Tuesday at the Caleta Hotel, on day one of the Gibraltar Masters.
Ms Sacramento was shown round the main playing areas by organiser Brian Callaghan and Tournament Director Stuart Conquest. She also found time to seek out some of the local players in the Gibraltar Masters including Gibraltar’s No.1 player Stephen Whatley.
She was then interviewed live on our official website by International Master Jovanka Houska.
Ms Sacramento, formerly Gibraltar’s tourism minister, has been a keen supporter of the festival.
“This is one of our favourite events. It is great for tourism because it is related to our events-led tourism strategy and it epitomises how successful this can be. Tradewise is a great festival,” she said.
For Gibraltar, she added, it was always a pleasure to welcome new chess players and those who return year on year.
Commenting on the number of young Gibraltarian children doing well in the Amateur B tournament this week she said it was wonderful to see them doing well and winning some of their games.
The Government was committed to supporting chess in schools and in the clubs, she said, because of the bigger picture and the benefits outside the game.
